When are you open?

  • Williams Brice Heritage Education Center, Martha Brice Gardens, and Carolina Backcountry Homestead:

    • Thursday-Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM.
  • Temple Sinai Jewish History Center:
    • Thursday-Friday, 1 PM – 4 PM,
    • Saturday, 10 AM – 1 PM.

How much does it cost to visit?

Free Admission to all facilities with Museum Membership!

  • Site A: Williams Brice House, Carulina Backcountry Homestead, Heritage Education Center:

    • $5 – Adults (18-64)
    • $2 – Students (6-17) & Seniors (65+)
    • Free – Children 5 & Under & Members
  • Site B: Temple Sinai Jewish History Center:

Where do I enter?

The main entrance to the Sumter Museum is through the Williams Brice House located at 122 N. Washington Street, Sumter, SC 29150. This historic home faces the hospital.

Restrooms

Public restrooms are located in the Heritage Education Building. After exiting the Williams Brice House, proceed into the Martha Brice Gardens. The white and brick building will be on your left. Enter through the glass foyer of the Heritage Education Building.

Backcountry Days (Circa 1800 Backcountry Living History Experience)

Always held on the second Saturdays in May, October, and December.

New Building Project

We are expanding with a new facility that will permanently house Sammy Way’s military collection, along with local history exhibits and improved collections storage. It will feature a WWI bi-plane, known as a Bristol, hanging in the military gallery. The building is expected to break ground around September 2024, with completion in 2026.

How can I contribute?

  • Presenting Sponsors:Available for certain sections within the new building (options ranging from $10,000 to $500,000).
  • Buy a Brick Campaign:

    1. $200 for individuals/families/nonprofits (4×8 size)
    2. $500 for corporate (8×8 size)

  • General or Monthly Donations: Can be made on our website at SumterMuseum.org. You can even set up a recurring monthly donation starting at $5.
  • Membership: Your annual membership is vital to our operations as we continue our growth while providing you with numerous benefits.

Rentals

McKenzie Hall in the Heritage Education Center and the gardens are available for rentals. Please note that the museum is open until 5 PM.

  • Rental Cost: $1200 for 12 hours
  • Booking Free: $400 (required to hold your date along with a signed contract)
  • Remaining Balance: Due 2 weeks prior to your event
  • Security Deposit: $200 (refundable post-event if no additional hours were added or damage occurred)
  • Inclusions: Tables & chairs (18- 8 ft tables, 10-5ft rounds, 7-4ft rounds, approximately 150 folding chairs)
